Blog Dolphini's CEO

Dolphini” Networks –

Where did you get the name “Dolphini”?

I am asked the above question all the time, mostly when the other party finds out that my last name is not Dolphini. And as the story goes …

I was kayaking in Sarasota Bay in Sarasota, Florida with my best friend, William “Bill” Morris (yes, that one) and another dear friend Todd. We were out in the bay/gulf area gliding with ocean kayaks. The water was very clear and then several bottlenose dolphins joined us. The dolphins were so smooth in the water and gliding better than we could ever do on ocean kayaks, they seem to be so graceful. They were even slightly bumping the kayaks seeming to want to communicate with us. At one point, one of the dolphins was on its side less than two feet from me – that is when I had an epiphany of having a one name domain name somehow associated with my family’s name in New Orleans which is DeMartini. Therefore, I thought what if I take Dolphin and place an “I” on the end to make it a Dolphin with an Italian flare to it?

Well, when I came back to Nashville, Tennessee. I was able to get the one name domain name http://www.dolphini.com/ and then designed a logo to use the “D” in Dolphini as a logo also. Everything fell into place. Everyone loved it!

Later, we even came up with a slogan; “Hosting with a Porpoise” – many people still talk about this slogan and still think we use it.

People all the time still introduce me as and call me “Mr. Dolphini” and I just love it! Since I have no wonderful children to provide name writes to, I am thinking about officially changing my name to “Michael Dolphini” 

Have you ever seen the owner of a company, change their last name to match the company, instead of the other way around? I know, I know, I think differently!

Successfully,
